As the wind swirls and screeches around us and the snow blurs the streets, I think that Sunday is the Academy Awards. I always love watching them, especially having girlfriends over beforehand for a cocktail before dinner while dissing the entire red carpet. Of course we are watching it, duh.
Looking at a ballot, I’m thinking “why don’t I know any of these movies?” The answer is that we spent time moving and have not seen a movie in the past year. There, it’s said. We’re movie buffs. We usually go to the movies nearly every weekend.
What has changed? Weather? New environment. Summer movies, we generally avoid the Bruckheimer Blockbuster. Living downtown where there are smaller venues and having to go out to the suburbs to see something new.
Hey, I can go see Rocky Horror Picture Show up the street, I just don’t stay up that late anymore.
The Oscars will be interesting to me because they may give insight into what films to see on Netflix or Amazon Prime next year. Aye, there’s the rub. No, we don’t have a 60″ flat screen projection HD thingie. You go, Hugh Jackman! Dee
Heavy sigh when contemplating this weekend’s movie lineup…
I saw “Silver Linings Playbook” which was disappointing despite BC since it was only a minor variation on same ol’, same ol’: middle-aged guy falls in love w/SYT (sweet young thing). If JL’s character had likewise been a middle-aged woman w/mental health issues, that would have been a change.
“Lincoln” – while an outstanding performance by DDL (who richly deserves Best Actor), left me feeling incomplete.
“Django” was a fantastic vengeful fable, but I have a high tolerance for blood spatter.
Thumbs up for “Moonrise Kingdom” (Bruce Willis, let me kiss your bald pate!) & “Flight” (Denzel can do no wrong in my book); “The Hobbit” was too long – P saw “Argo” & “Zero Dark Thirty” & reported them watchable.
Z saw “Les Mis” w/friends & liked it – we’re gonna catch the Cole Porter retrospective “Anything Goes” this weekend!
I wanted to see USA’s non-commercial-ridden Schindlers List last night but J ruined it by spending a long time on the phone with his dad and I needed to make dinner. Blood spatter, I can’t take, especially at night that cause nightmares. Thank goodness you can or you wouldn’t be able to do what you do, help who you help every day. DDL deserves an Oscar practically every movie. J wants to see the Hobbit….
