Pajamas

I never wrote this one. Must have become too tired. As a child I had to go through onesies, baby dolls, then nightgowns. I was too young to complain about the onesies…..

Longer nightgowns just twisted around as I got into my teens (no, I wasn’t allowed to date). It took me a long time to figure out a perfect solution.

For winter, a xxl tee-shirt, one of mine says save FIDO, Fiesta Island Dog Park in San Diego) where they worked for this off-leash dog area for ten years, gained it for a few and now they may be kicked out for condos. Another is from a really cool guitar shop and I took my guitar in that day when the shirts arrived and they were so cool I could get a “sleep shirt.”

I worked with FIDO peripherally for years as we all did so bought their tee when they asked me to help out from far away, it’s a great sleep shirt. If it’s hot out (doesn’t matter, we have A/C) I’ll put on a camisole or silk shirt but that’s usually it.

For bottoms I love very light weight silk underwear, full-length that lets my legs breathe and keep my feet out from under the covers! WinterSilks, great under jeans or ski pants. No I don’t get any compensation from this, it’ll just save you some time at department stores and online because research has been done by my husband, with a physics and engineering background who is a methodical and creative shopper.

And his wife who wears the silks. I got him a pair which I try to remember to take for him whenever he is traveling to a cold climate. I think even though he has never worn them, if he was in a frigid climate in business-wear, he could get away with it and make it to his presentation.

With all our winter gear outdoors I try to keep my core, head, feet warm and dry, and hands in the right set of gloves for whatever weather with we have to endure if we have no power and have to adjust to the weather. I try to do the same with sleepwear.

Assess the situation. Make a decision as to what makes you happy and comfortable. Cheers! Dee

Sleeping

My husband came home after two weeks away at work and a family wedding far away. I’d poured him a glass of ice water and our dog was going nuts so after I checked that his plane landed, we went to wait for him while my stew was cooking.

He wanted Dr. Pepper but I gave him water. We both fell asleep, head to head, on our L-shaped sofa and I awakened him at 11:00 and we went to bed, at the dog’s suggestion, request, demand.

I’ve been up for a couple of hours, he likes the view but can’t see it through his eyelids so he didn’t even stop snoring when I awoke and put down the blinds so he, they, could sleep through the morning sun.

After two weeks on the road he is so tired, and being home and sleeping in his own bed is treasured so I want to take care of the dog, let him sleep the morning away and spend a long weekend with him, quiet or about town.

The stew was good, not great. My stove went from too much to too little flame. I’m hesitant to put these pans with silicone handles in the oven even at at 300 or 325. Three hours and it was getting tender. Now I’ve another meal with stew I can cook for another hour, and pappardelle noodles I can cook on the stove. It tastes great, just needs to be pull-apart tender.

I also have good bread, soppressata and cheese to do a picnic. Out in the park, away from the coyotes (yes, they’ve been threatening dogs lately). Packs of them. Not human coyotes, animals who are hungry and looking to ambush dogs. They don’t seem to be afraid of their owners, either, only backing away about 5′. My dog is 80 in people years. I will not subject either of us to that type of threat.

Anyway, my husband didn’t even hear the clanking of the blinds. May they sleep well, peacefully. I know Zoe is happy to have him home. Dee

Mock Dog Olympics

The results of the first events are in, more to follow. As an early event surprise our friend Jake was named all-around Champion for his trusting nature, good spirit and being a great all-around dog. Go, Jake!

I’m now interviewing Wendy who has received the Gold for Jumping. She takes her sport to a new level. She loves her walks and spending time jumping on other dogs. What a pup!

Roger was interviewed earlier today and his dad translated for him as he speaks Dog and there are few translators on site today as it is early in the Competition. His dad said he won the Gold for “dog most likely to need a bath.” All hail Roger. As your friendly DOG correspondent, I can say that Roger looked wonderful (and smelled so) and I can’t imagine why he won in that category. Perhaps he’s up for others as well and is looking for an all-around medal. We’ll look for that in the week ahead as we continue our coverage.

Another dog, was it mine? Her name is Zoe and she won the Gold for Sleeping. Even at six weeks of age she slept eight hours a night. Now she’s up to about 20 hours a day and ran with it. Er, slept with it. Yeah, you go girl!

The Fastest Dog was not established because the Silken Windhound was unable to be off leash for the trials. Olivia did, however, win the Gold for Best Collar.

More from the Mock Dog Olympics as the Games continue. Remember to tune in to DOG for more info. Your on-site correspondent, Dee

p.s. There will be posthumous honors at the end. Like the legacy awards at the Oscars, they will include but not be limited to Chani, Gigi, Makai, Barney, Woody, Banquo, and many others……
