Rock My World

When I was 12, my parents gave me a cheapie nylon string guitar for Christmas. Why? Earlier that year we’d moved and met the children of one of Dad’s colleagues one night at their home for dinner. Afterwards, we kids went to the basement where they had 100 year-old wheelchairs from the local hospital’s sale. We had wheelchair races then came… Dave Mason’s “Alone Together” album… and it changed my life.

I taught myself a few chords and even put a girl band together, two tone-deafs and me. We sang for a school concert: Teach Your Children; Day is Done; and “500 Miles.”

One of his seventies album covers was a fold-out. I took out the record sleeves and lined it with tin foil to tan by the pool. It was Buffalo, there was no sun. I’ve listened to Dave Mason pretty much all my life, and now I just found out he’s in concert right down the road tomorrow night! It’s an intimate venue and would be a grand treat to see this rock legend play if tix are still available.

My husband is at a seminar tonight but we’ll get right on it if he wants to go. Wish me well, cheers! Dee

  1. got tix, 2 of the three left. Not together. Not quite perfect but good enough. Dee

  2. Great night, music. Grandpa Dave and his band and 150 stuffy white folks. Only in a community of the super-rich can sponsors be recruitied to help other wealthy residents buy a $35 ticket to see a rock legend. Standards, new material, a killer blues number and the encore was Feelin’ Alright followed by All Along The Watchtower. I don’t have a “bucket list” but as of right now this one is crossed off. Perhaps tomorrow my hearing will be back to normal. Picture this: a community of multi-million dollar houses got a bus and sent 20 residents to the event. They were skinnier than me but had way more wrinkles. Meow, Dee

  3. Lucky! I would love to see Dave Mason. And how great to see him in a small venue. What a great encore! We saw Bob Seger about a week ago at the HSBC Arena…he was really good…but sounded so much like his albums; a little jamming would have been nice.

  4. Last time I saw Bob Seger was in college! I think the guys busted me out of the infirmary for that one. I wasn’t “all there” but neither was anyone else if the aroma I was coughing through was what I know it was… Dee

  5. I am dying, dying, DYING to run up to Winstar this weekend & see Robert Cray, but finances really don’t allow it…
I’ll just have to crank his albums up at home & lift a toast!
