Audiences of One

They’re a dangerous thing. Remember in Trump I, let’s say a lawmaker introduced a bill to name a bridge or holiday after our Dear Leader. That was pandering to an Audience of One. Alternatively, when Trump I chose to be needlessly cruel to [insert minority group name here] he was just “pandering to his base.”

Yesterday a new monster arrived on scene in Trump II. VP “Divan” Vance began a cruel attack on an ally trying to save his people with our and many nations’ assistance from a dictator who illegally attacked it three years ago. It was a calculated smear, and being Trump, of course filmed in its entirety in the Oval Office. Beneath our Prez and VP? Perish the thought!

The attack on Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Ukraine was designed for a new Audience of One, Russia’s top spy Vladimir Putin, who is vaingloriously attempting to reunite the USSR as his legacy.

There are 330 million of us in the United States of America. We’ve chosen someone to lead our country who has just made a 180 degree turn in our decades-long foreign policy in order to cozy up to dictators instead of stand steadfast with our democratic allies. On television, for all to see.

What to make of it? Is it all a ploy in “the art of the deal?” I think not. It is not a peaceful maneuver in any way, shape or form. I see dollar signs where Russia’s currently held Ukraine territory contains more rare earth minerals than the parts of Ukraine that Ukraine still possesses and believe that these these sharks smell both blood and money in the water, or land as it may be.

When the president of the United States floats an AI vision of Trump’s Gaza resort with a gold statue of Trump, Elon Musk eating (?), and Trump and Putin on lounge chairs in the sun, we’re seeing a pretty rosy retirement for Messrs. Trump and Putin.

Add billions more in the U.S. from the working poor and disabled currently utilizing Medicaid and the rich will get even richer. Why not go whole hog and decimate Social Security and Medicare as well to get your tax cut for billionaires? As it is, elected Republicans are getting their feelings hurt so are being advised not to hold town halls in their districts that feature the general unease, incredulity and sometimes genuine horror of their gerrymandered voters.

Presidents are supposed to represent we, the people, not foreign dictators. Until now, that wasn’t too much to ask of our highest elected official. Suing to get our country back is not enough. As one of we the people, I’m fed up. Dee

Bullies III – A Haiku

Ms. E. Jean Carroll

Stopped the bully in his tracks

Congress needs you now

Trump says no border deal? That’s not his decision to make. Get Ms. Carroll that red cape she so clearly earned, and send her in. Where Congress fears to tread, let everywoman, everyman, your regular Joe who sits on a jury to use common sense and slay the bully who has terrorized the US of A for nearly a decade.

If you’re planning to follow Trump over whatever cliff he heads for next, think about this. Would you let your own daughter get anywhere near this man? Would you buy a used car from this man, who will send out goons to threaten you if you get a better deal from the other guy down the street?

Does Congress really have a 15% approval rating? At this point, fixing the border and providing needed aid to Ukraine and Israel can only help those numbers go up. No matter what Trump tells you to do. Think about it.

As a matter of fact, Congress doesn’t deserve this caped crusader, as it has refused any sane action when it comes to the misdeeds of 45. You’re on your own. Readers, our only choice is to vote out all the election deniers and mysogynists. Start with a blank slate and together we can fix the problems and let the “outs” figure out where they went wrong before running to represent “the people” again. Dee

Plotting, Not Plodding

Think about what’s been happening the past few weeks as an innocent democratic republic is besieged by a megalomaniacal dictator, who wants to take over a sovereign nation for his ego, legacy or both.

In the United States, the right wing is apoplectic, calling the Russian invasion of Ukraine the fault of Joe Biden, and saying that under Donald Trump, everything would be hunky dory. Wrong!

Behind-the-scenes negotiations have so far chastened the unwelcome usurpers, and united our allies and our fellow Americans to the importance of democracy. Just because Joe Biden isn’t hammering away at voter rights in the good ol’ US of A doesn’t mean it’s not foremost in his mind.

Just because he wants to allow NATO members and other nations to be a part of a united effort and is not out in front of the cameras tooting his own horn every day, doesn’t mean President Biden is not hard at work on our behalf of our nation and democracy around the world.

Yes, he’s not touting “love letters” from dictators or sucking up calling them brilliant and savvy. Yea for that! He’s not denigrating our own intelligence services or illegally hoarding Congressionally- appropriated aid to Ukraine to get political dirt for his campaign. And he’s not keeping a pandemic quiet and refusing to assist dying people because they come from “blue states” so are not “American” enough to be granted assistance by the federal government.

Hillary Clinton once asked who we’d want to answer the phone at three o’clock in the morning in an international emergency. Given the choice of Donald Trump or Joe Biden, I’ll pick Biden every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

Every President has armchair quarterbacks in the opposing party and in the media, people who’ve never written a proverbial book but feel superior because they can criticize its’ writing. President Biden has a huge monkey on his back, however, called Donald Trump. Donald Trump is the perennial backseat driver that never shuts up.

Wake up, Americans. This is the world we live in. Do we want Vladimir Putin to run Europe? He wants to bite off a big chunk of it right now. First, Ukraine then former SSR’s. Do we want partisans to take over our elections at home, taking our votes and changing them so whoever they say wins, wins? Well, I certainly don’t.

Give our President a chance to do what he does best, and know we selected the right person for the job. Long live an independent Ukraine! Dee
