What Goes Around Comes Around

Piglet. That’s me. A.A. Milne’s character. I gave a name to all my young friends and ended up with Piglet. He was Winnie The Pooh’s closest friend. We chose by paper ballot.

I ended up becoming the supporting character in another’s life, piglet once again. Now, I’ve been lent a talking piglet to place on my key chain, so many years later. I wonder where Tigger is these days. I taught him Algebra and he taught me Geometry. No, we never went on a date, I was a kid!

Where is Eeyore? No one’s seen Christopher Robin as we never named him. I know him now as an amalgam of all the great teachers I’ve ever known and thank them for all they’ve done in their lives and for their students.

I’m looking to Piglet’s new life and not on a key fob. Piglet would always honor and protect his best friend Winnie the Pooh. Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.

That’s just one Piglet scenario, thanks to a great writer and director and bad guy. Certainly Piglet will have others and use words, not swords. Thank you, everyone for The Princess Bride, also Wallace Shawn for the cliffs of insanity and the Sicilian quote about death.

Inconthieveable! Dee

Speaking of Piglet

Save the deli. I lent the book to a waiter who left town and never got it back. This one I’ll send back to David Sax and ask him to sign it for me and make me promise to never lend it out again.

The waiter’s chef had placed a pastrami sandwich on my plate that even mustard would not remedy. I spent my childhood going to Jewish delis in Montreal and NYC, and this was awful so I lent him the book.

OK, I’m a wanna-be sometimes Jew, for pastrami, smoked meat, and latkes, I’ve gone out for a latke breakfast twice in the past month, probably a sin for a lapsed Catholic married to a lapsed Protestant for over a decade. Matzoh balls and chicken soup. No wonder its called penicillin.

Challah turned into bread pudding. Montreal smoked meat on rye with a beer. Ah, that’s life. Since the waiter took my book forever I just ordered another, a used copy. Save The Deli by David Sax will now be part of my reference collection of cookbooks, of which there are a few select tomes by none other than Julia Child, James Beard, Simca Beck, Edna Lewis, Barbara Kafka, just check my cookbook series and see….. Piglet

Yes, that was my name in my first two years of high school. We all named each other in our little educational group.

I believe Piglet’s personality was tiny and shy and with the biggest heart which remains true to this day except for the tiny part. I’d love to find out what Eeyore, Tigger et al are doing. And Christopher Robin.

Christopher Robin once said “You’re braver than you believe, stronger than you seem and smarter than you think.”

I believe every child should know that quote. I remember. Piglet

ps, Thanks, Eeyore for help learning geometry. I believe I taught you algebra, Dee
