Bernie Madoff’s son killed himself yesterday, perhaps the only way he could find to escape his crimes. The coward’s way out of a scheme he’s profited from for many years.
Brian David Mitchell was found guilty yesterday of abducting and raping Ms. Smart for nine months when she was 14 years old. I never saw her in San Diego but others did and shortly thereafter she was freed from captivity. Life in prison is all we can hope for in this case.
Earlier this week breast cancer took a survivor, Elizabeth Edwards. Luckily she won’t see most of the aforementioned persons now or in the future because she’ll be in a different place, a better place, with her son. She will meet Ms. Smart, decades later, who will enter heaven as a whole and gratified senior citizen who has initially been granted privacy as she launches her life and career.
