Bullies and The Cardinal Rule

You can’t let a bully get away with it!

You might not be able to protect your lunch money from the bully on day one, but you’d better have a plan for day two, otherwise he’ll steal it every day and for the entire school year until you grow 6″ taller and are recruited as a tackle for the football team.

Two bullies took my winter hat (I was eight years old) on the bus and teased me all the way to school before ripping my hat in two. I was sobbing when I got off the bus and was taken to the principal’s office to identify the brothers who did it. The offenders’ family didn’t have a phone and any mail notice that was sent, including their grades, never made it home to Mom. Suffice it to say, even the principal was afraid of them. Today, I’d opine that both of them are in jail and their elderly mother sits on what’s left of a rickety front porch with an AR-15 that she’d use on the mailman if he ever got close enough.

Lo and behold, two families down the country road owned a dairy, each family had 8 kids, 12 of which were school age. Some of the boys were older than the two offenders. I never knew this for sure but something tells me they faced up to the offenders and the mean boys never so much as talked to me again, much less laid a finger on me. For nearly 80 years, Donald Trump has never paid the price for any of his nefarious deeds, and there have been more than you and I will never know about. Finally, one person has stood up to him and won, an 80 year-old woman who he sexually assaulted, and also defamed not once, but repeatedly.

Trump used Russia to win in 2016. Result? Mueller investigation was DOA due to AG Bill Barr.

Trump blackmailed Ukraine for dirt on Joe Biden. Result? Senate Republicans didn’t have the guts to convict.

Trump used several means to commit treason, attempting to disenfranchise 82 million voters and prohibit a legal transfer of power to his legitimately elected successor, Joe Biden. Result? Once again, the Republican Senate didn’t have the guts to convict him. Now he claims total immunity for treason and is the frontrunner for the Republican presidential nomination.

Trump claims total immunity for everything illegal he and his cronies did before, during and after his presidency, and also claims that he has the right to be on the presidential ballot throughout the nation even though he has committed an insurrection. Result? We’ll see if our SCOTUS has the guts to do what needs to be done before Trump gets elected and becomes our first of many dictators, or loses and puts the country through hell by bullying his way back into the White House to pardon himself.

Bullies never stop of their own volition. They need to be stopped before the damage becomes too great to bear. BTW, these cases could be in court forever, because Trump’s not paying the price, his campaign donors are. Haven’t the American people had enough? Think about it before you vote. Dee

People Like You

I’ve always dreaded that term. It means me. whether I offend people by being tolerant of others and work for their rights, or am just old and arthritic, or just a woman, I do not know.

It is not in my bailiwick or arsenal. Heck, I used to be fined 10% of my fifty cent weekly allowance for calling my little sister dumb. We never came to fisticuffs. We did enough work around the “hobby farm” to make us tired and go to bed early. Unless we asked to go skinny-dipping in the pool in the dark in the few weeks they called “summer.” Parents would watch and allow us to dive and swim for 15 minutes then we’d shower and go to bed. We had our means of coercion, and they had a vested interest in us sleeping through the night. It was a good trade.

When folks say “people like you” it is always a negative. I do not like to think of people in that realm. People like you always————————————–. I call these GG’s, for gross generalizations. I’m northern, my husband is southern. Generations ago his folks may have fought the good folks. Mine were in Europe, with his, some in close towns with the soon-to-be Allies years after our civil war. Now his Dad keeps telling me I was the cause of the War of Northern Aggression. He’s kidding, of course, and we’ve turned to family stories rather than political discourse at dinner, perhaps as I help prepare and serve it.

We lived way out in the country and someone had built a “bus hut” of plywood, painted yellow, so the school bus could find us and the two boys next door out there early in the morning. We had to get up early because there was a long road and we were 1/4 mile from the hut by the road. There were more kids to take to school. When we arrived, in a half-bus with all the full buses unloading kids, older kids would tell us we were on the “retard bus.” We just had farms or lands or creeks and views better than their parents. In first grade I was reading at a sixth grade level and visiting the library every week.

It became the “tard bus” at school. It was small but local miscreants taunted me on it by ripping my winter hat in half, middle of winter. I was sent to the Principal, crying, thinking I was in trouble but only identifying photos. People like me, indeed. Two families owned a dairy down the road. Between them they had 12 kids. They approached the miscreants who stole the mail from their mother and never had a phone, and the offenders never spoke to me or touched me or stole my belongings ever again. No violence or injuries, just 12 vs. 3 and no-one has ever talked to me about it for 50 years.

People like me, another permutation. They actually do like me, husband and dog. That’s the kind of like I can deal with. I approach every person with the knowledge that this is someone I want to get to know. Let them prove otherwise. Must take Zoe out and breakfast. Then her beauty sleep. She’s a herder. It’s routine. Here’s to you from a dog mom, Dee

Making Fun

We always did that as kids at home and neighborhood and school. Parents taught us to get along and play and have after-school activities.

I had extra violin, dance and piano after school hours that meant I was busy and happy. Not necessarily with the “job jar” which was our weekend chores.

Learning about oneself takes time, much time on my part. But I can laugh at myself and tell funny stories about childhood and stupid mistakes I’ve made. I really think the difference with criminals and everyday folks is that normal people remember the day they did that dumb thing and everyone laughs together. Not at someone, together.

In hopes that I did not make one grade school person miserable, I was always a bit of a geek and did not fit in.  If I did hurt anyone’s feelings, I apologize. Making fun can turn brutal when it is done, as it has been to me on occasion in childhood and adulthood in nasty and vindictive ways.

Bullying should be stopped and I’m glad it’s finally beginning in grade school when a professional may be able to prevent a kid from becoming a serial killer, and especially save classmates and others through life.

Yes, our govermnent has a trillion dollars to lends to banks, stock brokerages and insurance companies but not to upgrade education. Bring back music and art and it’ll be a different world. We know where our money is going. Now, let’s change it. Just my opinion. Dee
