My Own Birthday Gift

For many years I’ve wanted a Claddagh ring, especially since I met my husband and traded plain 18K gold bands in a civil ceremony.

Yes, I have yellow gold on one hand but plan for sterling silver on the right. With heart pointed in it demonstrates that I’m spoken for. My wedding band shows that I’m married.

Love, friendship and loyalty should always be in our lives, and the claddagh will help us remember that. We do not usually do gifts but I’ve wanted this for 12 years and it’s sterling silver, cheap! It’ll go with my golf (magnetic) bracelets.

It was important to get it in a large size. Guess what? I broke my left third finger at 16 playing hoops with my family in the driveway. I broke my right finger after a job interview years ago, tripping up the stairs with wallet, resume, keys and sunglasses in hand and a job offer. I couldn’t take it, sadly. They did say I was a Cadillac in a VW factory…..

Getting the ring over the broken joint is the issue. It’ll stay on no matter the fit. Sorry to have to do this for my husband but he’s too busy. Dee

  1. I got the package with the ring box and asked my husband if he wanted to place the last ring I’ll ever have on my right ring finger (there’s an 18K gold one on the left). He opened the box, knelt down and did so, with the heart facing in to show that I’m “spoken for.” What a sweetheart. He and Zoe are snoring in bed as I write this early on a Saturday morning. D
