Hasta La Vista, Baby

Everyone knows that Terminator line. I’m thinking of all the friends and neighbors who have left. They never come back. Few keep in touch.

I’m lucky to be friends with folks from grade school, high school, college and beyond. All from different places. The internet has been a boon here and has put me in touch with people I’ve not seen in decades.

It’s sad to think of the people who left me behind and those I left by moving away. I always wish them well and think about them often.

What I do like is remembering the good things, the funny things like J and me standing under this big tree in a thunderstorm and me saying “I hope we’re not in the news tomorrow, two old ladies stood under a tree and were hit by lightning.”

I suppose we remember people who made a difference in our lives and try to re-connect whenever we can, wherever we can. Right now I know that we live in nice, transient communities and people leave and it’s neither here nor there.

Just don’t take it personally. People leave because they want to or have to do so. Some “stick” and some don’t. That’s life. We wish them well. Dee

  1. There is a saying I used to have on my frig about friends of the road and friends of the heart. Funny how the heart friends are those you can meet after not seeing each other for years and just take up where you left off.

  2. We’re family but I feel that we just get into the swing of things, given the new kitchen I have to ask more questions about where things are, but it’s like we never parted. I love spending time with you and cooking with you, you’ve taught me so much.

  3. My fondest T-storm memory: many moons ago (B.Z.), my friend R came out to MY place to ride (in those yrs – once again, B.Z.! – I usually hauled out to my buddies’ near Kaufman & Terrell…)
Anyway, we set out but were sidelined by a thunderstorm; we huddled up under a neighbor’s huge sycamore. It had big vines of poison ivy growing up the trunk; R’s gelding nibbled on it & then nuzzled his mama! I sharply warned her that was POISON IVY but she just laughed.
She wasn’t laughing a few days later when she broke out all down her neck & back ;-) Come to think of it she hasn’t been out here to ride since!!!
    (Unfair; I’m a mom & she’s a grandmama now so there’s NO TIME)

  4. It was a sycamore! No poison ivy, though. I had my Lab and she, her Yorkie. Sorry about your friend. D

  5. Dee,
San Francisco is calling you..just saying. Pane e Vino always makes me smile and think of you when i am in that neck of the woods. fondly, C.

    • Thanks, Connie! You’re a friend of the heart, with whom I could sit down and pick up as if it was yesterday. Readers, this is a great cook – we met at cooking school/adult camp across the pond. Happy New Year! Dee
