We don’t actually have freedom in the great US of A. We natives give it up at birth, and heaven forbid the illegal aliens and their freedoms. My mother got a Green Card from Canada over fifty years ago to live here and experience our freedoms.
We earn a license to live here, one to drive and to work and to pay the government a good portion of our wages. Part of that is to Social Security, which we’ll never see because our government chooses to spend our “lock box” money elsewhere.
Our government also says we are subject to God. I don’t mind that, but don’t want my government telling me that. Worship is one thing I can do without government interference, especially as it was contraindicated by our founding fathers. Who is anyone to print on our money “In God We Trust.”
Why did we have no founding mothers? Did these founding fathers spring from the gods as did Zeus?
Back to freedom. We have no freedom to take care of our health or well-being. Our lives may be insured by employers but not to make things right for a spouse when one is hit by a bus.
Perhaps employer-based health and other plans are bound for obscurity but until there are alternatives, I’m ok with that. Right now it’s a scary world out there and the next person who says “I can’t talk to you, you’re ONLY the wife,” I’d like to at least throw a glass of water in their face.
If we don’t have choices, we don’t have freedom. Can I leave the country and become a citizen elsewhere? Probably. Do I want to? No. I want our country to be all that it can be for all of us. Make it work.
A few weeks ago we hired a lot of politicians to speak for us. Let’s make sure they do. Then freedom is a word we may be able to use again. Dee
I keep things very “safe” & noncontroversial on my Facebook account, but I’ve grown annoyed w/the viral spread of the “Change settings to this, thus, & that to keep FB activity private!”…
I’ve done it for a couple of friends, but instead of spreading the meme, I wanted to post: “Do you honestly think in this day & age that any use of a cell phone or computer can be considered PRIVATE?!?!? We have bargained away most of our freedoms, our govt has passed sweeping laws to be able to snoop on our phone conversations, emails – to subject us to invasive searches for travel… Grow up & look at reality!”
(So for the most part, but quite definitely in what I consider the public space of social media, I don’t post ANYTHING I wouldn’t want spread far & wide)
” Ah, my friends from the prison, they ask unto me “How good, how good does it feel to be free “? And I answer them most mysteriously “Are birds free from the chains of the skyway”? “. ..Dylan, Ballad in plain D.
Heads up, son. “Songwriting is like fishing in a stream; you put in your line and hope you catch something. And I don’t think anyone downstream from Bob Dylan ever caught anything.” That’s from Arlo Guthrie. I’d take my guitar out of hibernation to play with you. From a beginner in all ways of life, Dee
I don’t use my FB account much at all still know my phone and computer are already under NSA scrutiny. OK I ran out of doggie bags so I had to get one and come back. Phew. Got that one covered. She went twice! Yes, when FBI visits I’ll show you her food and explain that with frozen raw food without grain they’re small, way smaller that a 40# dog should emit. OK just let me call my husband or her Cousin Val before you haul her in. She didn’t call or email anyone! Freedom, I’m still trying to find the cassette I have with Joan Baez and Marion Anderson. Dee
Note to the government: Mom died over four years ago so you don’t need to investigate her. One interesting item. She had a Green Card with SSN and correct birth date but Medicare changed her birth date. After years of fighting it she was so sick I flew out to her and she sent me out for a prescription and told me I had to say the 31st rather than the 30th which was her real date of birth because “it’s easier that way.” Yep. True, Dee
