Best Men

Of course the first would be my dear husband, who took a 2-hour test for work on this computer yesterday morning then moved boxes and moving blankets for storage so his mother and our nephew can come in to town to visit later this week. Oh, the remainder of the day he spent on storage solutions for my pantry. God bless him.

Second is my father, with a tough Germanic exterior and an interior like Kugelhopf, soft. He has taught me well over the years.

My father-in-law, Joe, he asked my husband within 24 hours visiting, “when are you going to ask her? It’s OK with me.” It took his mom five days of telling me what a pain her son was to live with for her to give her OK.

We’re going on our tenth anniversary, which is why I’m writing this.

My brother, K, is not always reachable but is a safe harbor in any storm and fun to talk to and to entertain and feed, always. Sheep Bob.

My brother-in-law, who now calls me “sis.” We’ve come a long way, bro. Ten years ago you wouldn’t even acknowledge my existence. Just a girl, just me.

Two former colleagues who will remain nameless here but are cherished for enriching my life and work. Thanks RS and KM.

My nephew, age 9, who will visit in five days then come back with his Dad next month. I see great promise in him and we plan to nurture him and make the most of what he can be. Engineer, astronaut, architect, president, whatever. No, we won’t be sleeping in the Lincoln bedroom. The bed is too short for Jimmy!

These are many of the the men who look over and protect me and provide me guidance, and a boy we nurture. May life look kindly upon them. Dee
