I heard there is a new show on Food Network, which I don’t really watch anymore, about favorites. While I haven’t seen it, I’d like to do my own version.
Would you care to participate? Some of the sub-categories may include childhood favorite, current favorite and others as we go along.
BREAKFAST
I’ve never been much of a breakfast person. A slice of cold pizza works for me. But I must share a childhood favorite. Every Sunday my dad would cook us pancakes and bacon. I hated pancakes with fake maple syrup (still do but love the real syrup) and one day we went to visit his old friends and this German couple made me crepes with strawberry jam and whipped cream on top. It was the most fantastic thing I’d ever eaten and I might have been 7-8 years old. Thank you, Moselle, for making me want to cook!
From then on, Dad didn’t know how to make a crepe, but at the end of the batter, he’d make me one pancake that I could roll up with strawberry jam and put powdered sugar on top. It made me feel special and no-one’s made that for me for the past few decades.
My current favorite would have to be a perfect sesame bagel with Nova, a slight bit (schmear) of cream cheese, and a Snapple Cran-Raspberry. To gild the lily it might have lemon, capers and chopped red onion on the side.
In the ballpark is a restaurant meal: two poached eggs, rye toast, hash browns and bacon.
So what’s your pleasure? Cheers, Dee
