Old Friends

I’ve never been to a high school or college reunion, and there is a major college reunion right around the corner. I don’t live anywhere near my alma maters. It’s very lucky that I have at least one good high school friend and a few in college as well.

Girlfriends are to be treasured. They’re with you thick and thin. One just agreed to be my emergency contact for the dog lodge/spa. Yes,out here that’s what they call it, but she said she’d be honored to do this duty.

My girlfriends run the gamut from high school oboe player born on the same day at the same time in different countries. And the skier whose family I want to have out here next ski season if we’re here.

My best college friend is a guy who is a great leader, organizer, supporter who has been by the sides of people in trouble and attended more funerals than normal. He found me nearly 15 years ago and we’ve met with my husband and he hasn’t pushed on this reunion but I’d like to be there.

My favorite prof is still around, and so are many of the gals on my wing, who I’ve recently been in contact with, so that’s it. What, you want something spiritual? Here goes, I’m still in touch with the boy who had a crush on me in fifth grade. He carved me a miniature violin (didn’t give it to me) and now sends me photos of his daughters.

An executive here grew up here in the same small village, and the head of our HOA graduated from the same high school that I did, 2,500 miles away. It’s eerie sometimes how small our world really is.

Cherish old friendships. Many will fall by the wayside given time and moving around, but a few will remain and those are a key to your past. Yes, they remember your youthful missteps but also cherish you as a friend. Dee

  1. Yes…I do remember a few youthful missteps (ha) and I definitely cherish you as a friend! I believe I am the skier of which you speak…that would be cool if it works out.

  2. I treasure yours, too. It’s snowing right now but I hear only one resort is still open. Next year, for sure. Dee
