Traders’ Village

Yes, today Jim dragged me to the weekend trading post to see all the wares, all within minutes of being drenched by rain. He was looking for woodworking tools. We spent five dollars for a ripe pineapple, a chocolate ice cream cone for me, and a bottle of water to share. Big spenders. It appears that the rent is too high in these covered trading spaces for someone with quality old tools to be a seller.

It was interesting. They had furniture, cell phone supplies, tons of TX star iron wall hangings, fresh papaya and pineapple. Clothing, burgers, hot dogs, sausage on a stick, roasted corn. Door knobs, hats, and some tools that were not what “we” were looking for.

Tonight I’m making hamburgers and french fries, which is what Jim really wanted for lunch. I’ll make a little cole slaw with red cabbage and carrots. Then we have fresh pineapple or chocolate ice cream for dessert. Moose Tracks? I’d like something a little more refined than that.

The job hunt is shut down until Tuesday morning, because it’s mainly financial industry and the markets are closed for President’s Day on Monday. Jim has an interview Tuesday afternoon. Things are still moving slowly but gaining momentum. Who knows if the stimulus package will help at all. We can only hope.

I’m off to make dinner for my dog and my love. Cheers, Dee

  1. Dear Dee,
Sorry you didn’t find exactly what you were looking for, but in many cases the merchandise changes from weekend to weekend. You never know what treasures you might find in this sea of hub caps, tube socks, 45 rpm records and used Craftsmen tools.

Hope you can come back soon.

  2. Thanks for stopping by, Mike! I didn’t say there wasn’t anything at Trader Village, just not something on my husband’s exhaustively researched list. Our nephew is six and wiry like his dad, so some full-scale tools (like a hammer) are way too big.

I did see quite a large array of tube socks, now that you mention it! We’ll definitely stop back from time to time if we stay in town – everything’s up in the air right now. Three pair of jeans for $10, wow! I would have spent all day in the bathroom trying “just another pair” until I found the perfect three!

Yep, impressive setup you’ve got. Nearly five years living here and it’s my first time. Thanks again. Dee

  3. I’m glad you had fun. If things go as planned, we will probably break ground on a third Traders Village in Texas in the coming months. A state-of-the-art flea market (if there is such a thing) with all sorts of modern bells and whistles in the market and the RV park that you don’t find in our other facilities… Stay tuned!
