“No one who cooks, cooks alone. Even at her most solitary, a cook in the kitchen is surrounded by generations of cooks past, the advice and menus of cooks present, the wisdom of cookbook writers.” Laurie Colwin

I believe that today as I strive not to make magic in the kitchen, but cook and create and teach. Please place your heart and soul in your cooking, as I do. Your loved ones will save a special place in their hearts for you.

  1. I don’t love to cook, but my kids love to eat what I cook, and that makes me happy. Food is definitely a central issue in our house. As Son1 has gone off to college, he’s become more appreciative, and asks how to make all the things he grew up with. There’s quite an email cookbook going on!

  2. PDX, you might think about logging on and making him his own Epicurious cookbook. Taste memories are totally subjective to what one had as a child.

As to college, my best friend in high school, whose b-day is same day as mine, dropped off her first child at college. Parent angst.

We’ll see what to do for the big one this year, besides join AARP.
