Not Cooking is Good, Too

Jim’s off to a job interview and I have ham and cheese for sandwiches, roast chicken for chicken salad with tarragon, roasted pecans and celery. I usually use walnuts but Margie picked these pecans from a friend’s orchard and cleaned a quart bag for me which I immediately froze. I’ll pop them in a 350 degree oven to toast for five minutes, then cool and coarsely chop. No way the supermarket has nuts that fresh!

It’s good to not cook for a day! I can make some hard-cooked eggs and have a slice of good Vermont cheddar and wedges of cluster tomato (I still don’t know if the tomato crop is safe).

One thing I’m NOT going to have is the dinosaur-shaped chicken nuggets we bought for Joseph, our nephew, as backup when he visited. He actually liked my celebration coleslaw! We had them on July 3rd because I was prepping for the party. They taste like breaded cardboard, even with teriyaki sauce.

So I think I’ll make some lunch, watch an old movie or two and do the ironing when it cools off outside. Take out the dog, perhaps capture some flower shots with the new camera. Have a lazy Sunday. One is needed every once in a while. I thought of even seeing Mamma Mia… but we saw Get Smart with a neighbor friend yesterday. It was funny, a funny, inconsequential summer movie.

I got home from errands and the A/C was broken and it was eighty degrees in here. Changed the batteries on the thermostat (stole them from my camera) and finally it kicked in and it’s livable. This new thermostat is eating two AA’s per week!

Wish Jim luck. Wherever we end up, we’ll keep in touch. D

  1. Even a T-Rex would agree the dino chicken nuggets taste nasty, especially without any ketchup.

  2. “when it cools off outside” – glad to see you haven’t lost your sense of humor!
Got all my fingers n’ toes crossed for my boy,
    luv Val

  3. Joseph LOVED the dinosaur chicken nuggets. We cook 4-5 of them for a minute in the microwave and he dips them in BBQ sauce. Nobody else fights him for them. Poor kid, if only he knew what good food he is missing! If you are going to be a picky eater, you could do better than to just eat chicken nuggets. YUK!
