Dear Readers,
http://www.cooking.com has knives on sale this weekend on their site. The best set to recommend for beginners is the Cutlery Starter Set from Henckels Four Star. Down from $241 to $120.50, this set includes a 4″ paring knife, a 6″ utility knife, 8″ chef’s knife and 9″ sharpening steel.
A bargain, in my view. Hey, I don’t make anything on this, just showing you the lay of the land.
Keep cooking! Dee
Just thought of something. Make sure these knives are made in Germany and not in Japan. I read something a couple of years back that Henckels contracted out knives that were sold less expensively but were made differently in Japan. Perhaps that may be why they are so reasonably priced.
Still, if you’re working with substandard knives or those awful “laser” knives that shred food, this may be an upgrade until your knife skills improve and you’re ready to move up to purchasing individual knives.
Whatever you do, store them carefully and keep them sharp, yourself or at the cooking shop or butcher.
Happy 4th of July! Dee
I checked out their site. This particular knife set is made in Germany. Dee
