Severe Weather Advisory

I got home from running errands today and ran into a neighbor and of course, the weather was the first subject.  I thought we’d missed a round of thunderstorms as it’s been quite active, weatherwise, the past few days.

He asked if I’d been watching the news (no, I was out running errands) and suggested I do so.  Severe weather advisory in effect, ping pong ball-sized hail expected and 60 mph winds.  That was helpful and I called my husband, who was working off-site in the storm’s path today.

But aside from weather channels in what is a very volatile climate, I have two things working for me: a $12 hygrometer I bought for my guitar and now know the air is so dry here it has to stay in its case 90% of the time; and the birds.

The storm advisory was on until 6:30 p.m. but these guys and gals (a family with two young colts) flew in after several days away at 5:00.  It’s supposed to warm up and dry up this weekend and they knew the big storm wasn’t going to hit their nesting grounds.

Also, unbeknownst to me, a friend was circling overhead, two in fact.  These birds are 5′ tall when standing straight, and their friend also has about a 10’wingspan.  These are incredible animals, mate for life and call for each other in prehistoric voices.  And now they and the red winged blackbirds, cliff swallows and robins tell me the weather, too.  Hope you had a great day.  Cheers, Dee

They're Back!
