We had lovely steaks from husband’s folks ranch in TX last night, with grilled pattypan squash, grilled radicchio and my new fry bread, that is also grilled.
The fry bread was served with seasoned olive oil or a Greek olive tapenade I picked up at World Market this morning on a whim. The bread was a hit, of course, but the tapenade could use some more kick.
All seems to be going well with m-i-l and hope she’s happy with what we have later today. Yes, I was up at 4 a.m. We had the slider open and there was a foul odor outside, didn’t smell like skunk. I closed it and realized I had to thaw out sausages for breakfast this morning and an entire side of salmon for dinner. So here I am.
Speaking of foul odors, our dog Zoe was out with a friend last night before dinner and both of them rolled on the grass, where a dead thing had been. Dinner was suspended until we could run Z through a bath so now she needs a combing out…
Smells actually awaken me, especially nasty ones through an open window (and I love open windows). Luckily they do otherwise my husband would be drenched in skunkage.
M-i-l and I found an artist’s studio in a nearby mountain town, gorgeous building he designed, and bought a few little things. My husband grew up on a dairy and there are a couple of paintings of a little boy with a dog and dairy cows (I bought a card and framed it today) and one I really want of a boy standing by a stop sign waiting for the school bus with his dog. His real dog used to take Jim and his little brother to the bus in the morning and go back and collect them in the afternoon.
We have enjoyed living in major cities. We love the country and our views. So if a skunk lets go in the middle of the night, so be it. I’m a little bit country, a little bit of rock and roll. Cheers, Dee
p.s. I’ve looked all over for the new Jeff Bridges cd and no-one has it so iTunes is the way to go on that one. He says it’s half “Bad Blake” music from Crazy Heart that didn’t make it into the film.
