I tried Steven Raichlen’s recipe tonight and messed it up. Instead of printing the recipe I cribbed ingredients on a post-it note. Even though it is a quick bread it required five minutes of kneading, which I omitted. I’ve never kneaded a quick bread before! After it sat 30 minutes I kneaded it for about three minutes then let it sit 15 more while the grill heated up. The result was tasty, but thicker bread that didn’t look anything like the BBQU version. Next time I’ll do it right.
Two dips were made to go with this experiment, our friend who we went to dinner with came over knowing it was a first try, one a Greek Tzatziki, one a tomato-based Italian crostini topping. So I took what is a version of a Native American flatbread, garnished with Greek and Italian influences, then we went out to our favorite Mexican restaurant.
Now I have a neighbor’s dog for the first time, trying to calm her after her owner was taken to the hospital by ambulance a few moments ago. Life changes so fast. This morning I watered their plants while they were on vacation, this afternoon I gave them back their key and now we have it again… and their dog, who is starting to breathe a bit easier lying on her own bed next to my feet with her favorite toy right there.
Let’s hope for the best at the hospital and to hear some good news very soon. Cheers, Dee
