A Canadian womens’ bobsled team moved in next door, for a week. I’ve never been much for candy or chocolate bars but since I was a kid, I’ve been head over heels for Coffee Crisp, a chocolate/coffee layered bar.
Once I said I’m half Canadian, I was offered two halloween treat-sized bars and just had one before making breakfast, to remind me of my childhood. Yum.
The only place I’ve seen them in the States was in a really run-down neighborhood I consulted in years ago, at a mini-mart next door to the office. I went there every morning and got a Diet Coke and knew not to let them put it in a bag (only liquor was put in bags, to be consumed on the streets). There it was, shining in front of me, a Coffee Crisp bar.
It seemed pedestrian (ha) to me to have it so close at hand. I didn’t have to wait to go to Canada, or wait for my relatives to visit the USA. It kind of took the fun out of it and I only bought one or two over the years. It’s cool to be given a couple by the Canadian bobsled team, though.
I don’t think there’s an American candy bar that is as “adult” as a Coffee Crisp. Most are so tame and insipid they’re not worth the calories. Ah, but my neighbors introduced me to Pro Bar, specifically chocolate pistachio. I occasionally have one of those for lunch. Just thinking of it is making me hungry.
Today is Fall Back, I’ve turned most of the clocks back but Jim is making the most of his extra hour of sleep. I’ve already prepped the appetizer for tonight’s dinner party so think I’ll get myself some breakfast and take the dog for her second outing of the day. Cheers, Dee
I limited myself to one Coffee Crisp and gave the other to another neighborhood Canadienne, J. Hope you enjoyed it! Dee
