Would you like a Republican or Democrat egg (eggs can no longer be controversial, in my view) this morning?
Today, apart from storming Khadaffi’s compound and the D.C. earthquake, minor issues, we need to talk politics.
This dream plane has union issues. The press is blaming it on Obama, as President. It’s the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB).
If people think that Presidents or Governors control the government, they’re so wrong. It’s the institutionalized and unionized employees that outlast elected officials and try to keep the status quo no matter what happens.
Ask a politician and he/she will tell you that they make a difference. Most do not ever make anything happen ever in their elected career. I speak from experience, not as a politician or government drone, as a legislative analyst and lobbyist.
As the Republican presidential field grows enough to dilute the message, think how many laws have been passed that aren’t included in the annual budget. Know that Congress has to agree to pass something before the President can sign it or veto it.
Our founding fathers had it right with the Presidency, Congress and Supreme Court and a separation of powers. I like to vote for the person who will do the least damage to our lives. Our founders made it tough for leaders to act unilaterally therefore the fewer laws passed, the better. Oh, and I always want a divided House and Senate so that the President has more hurdles to jump.
That’s just me. Dee
An old friend of mine from college was the polar opposite to me and now he may be poised to be chief of staff to the President. I’m happily married and retired and living in the mountains. He probably digests Fox and I watch CNN. Note that I’ve no picket fence or grass growing underneath my feet.
