Enough Social Interaction

We need a weekend off!  Last weekend is crazy, as we hosted dinners Friday night, went out with a friend Saturday the ended up cooking dinner here Saturday night then going to her place on Sunday.

Had other visitors on the weekend, plus Jim had a conference all week and brought seven people to see our town and go to dinner on Wednesday and his mother comes for nearly a week in four days.

I’ve been menu planning and making sure the house and the dog are ready for inspection.  I will have to clean up some paperwork as my two piles (it’s down to two) are each about 6″ high and in danger of falling over.  If I just get rid of all the AARP magazines that are sent to me even though my membership has expired, it’ll lighten the load.  There are just so many things I want to read, but never seem to have the time to do so.

Question for you.  I brought not one of my couple hundred cookbooks with me when we moved 2 1/2 years ago.  Oh, they’re still in air-conditoned storage.  I have bought several cookbooks here, mostly local authors, and get classics out of our library regularly (volume 2 of Mastering The Art of French Coooking as of now).  I do look up some old recipes I knew from Gourmet on epicurious.com and sometimes when a favored Food Network chef (they’re dwindling) has something I want to cook I’ll look it up, like something from Alton Brown, and cook it.

It looks like everything is going to digital media and I hate this because I grew up reading books and love them.  Nothing is finer on a cold and snowy day than to curl up with cookbooks and look up a stew recipe.  I can’t do that on Kindle, Nook, or even the iPad I don’t yet have.

Assuming you need a recipe would you rather: cook from a book; cook with a printed recipe you found online; or use a digital device.

I don’t write in my books but sometimes put a post-it note in with my changes.  That said, I’m sorry the book era seems to be coming to an end.  Let me know.  Cheers, Dee

ps We’re on vacation tomorrow so I may not check in.  Hear the Zoo has some interesting new inhabitants.
