Deluge

It’s here and one of the resorts has already shut down for the season. We’re trying to get away for a long weekend as we never made our holiday flights because I got sick, and we never really took time last year either except for a couple of days around Labor Day.

The water was really flowing from rain and snowmelt all day and even the birds had a tough time of it. It may rain most of the week though it’s supposed to clear a bit tomorrow. All I know is that the robins, who recently arrived, should be grateful for these rains as the asphalt path is littered with worms who don’t want to be flooded in their terrestrial homes but take their chances on being robin bait. Farewell, worms! These are the fattest robins I’ve ever seen.

There’s already some flooding threating the valleys but not here. We’re still not getting rid of snow tires yet as travel beckons over mountain roads. My husband got gas for under $3/pg today so it’s worth driving rather than flying. Hope all’s well in your part of the world, Dee

  1. Dog Zoe got a new rain/snow coat today and it fits and works to keep her dry and me from tons of extra towels to wash. Thanks husband. Dee

  2. Now it’s snow! Still dark outside. Glad Zoe has a coat. Dee

  3. Blue skies with more precipitation coming in shortly. Cranes were out this morning, and now some geese and a flock of glossy ibis just flew in to feed under the new-fallen snow. Every day is an adventure!

  4. Lots of rain, may snow tomorrow and Friday but all three local resorts are closed for the season. Parking lots are empty, as are grocery stores, and there’s mud everywhere. And gigantic birds walking ten feet away… There are pleasurable elements during what we locals call “mud season.” Dee
