Spring may be around the corner, in a month or so, for us, but summer is on everyone’s minds elsewhere in the country. I’m afraid I’ve taken on a few of my husband’s traits regarding traveling. We both have our jobs to do whether we’re going for a weekend or a few months in another country for work. But now we’re not planning for ourselves, but for others. We are thorough.
I just pulled together some “off the beaten path” sights and eateries in So Cal for one friend with a young child. Then family (dog Zoe’s hip surgeon) is coming into town en route to Yellowstone and I want to make sure her dad has a chance to fly-fish while here. So I’m collecting books and packaging them to mail, and compiling lists and we always come last, that’s OK. We’ll go somewhere this year.
Guests from Jim’s work are coming up the mountain to stay this weekend to finish the year’s skiing. Actually I hear it’s not bad. I think they got such a good base (over 100″) that even though snow is melting in this mountain valley it’s still up at the resorts. So I have to plan meals for 1-2 guys who don’t care what I make, they know it’ll taste good and they’ll get some home cooking for a change. Plus they take care of Zoe when we’re out of town, or used to until a lovely nine year-old girl came into Zoe’s life. It’ll be a pleasure feeding and housing them.
Husband Jim calls me a feminist homemaker. He says housewife and I’ve never liked that term. We move too often for me to be married to a house. Heck, here we have a photo of the home’s owner and his family up on the bookcase in the living room! The only photo I brought is one from our wedding, in a frame given to me by my mother-in-law the first time we met (three months before the wedding).
She may come out for a visit, too, hopefully with her grandson and our nephew. More guests! Looks like Chez Dee is open for business!
