Charles Grodin must be a foodie. Don’t tell me if you’re not! Recently we saw “Seems Like Old Times” and I always remember Aurora’s Chicken Pepperoni. So I made something that resembled it last night. I won’t tell you what’s really in it, only that I sauteed some chicken and put it in the oven with sauce with pepperoni and topped it with some mozzarella cheese. Then when it was nearly done I boiled some fresh pasta, tossed it with more of the sauce and served it together. I cheated on this recipe with a bottled sauce, to which I added diced pepperoni. I can’t tell you what I used because messing with this sauce may have dire consequences.
One of my favorite movies is “Midnight Run,” in which Charles Grodin waxes poetic about Potatoes Lyonnaise. I’ve made sauteed potatoes with onions for many years but have no idea whether it is the traditional French version.
Perhaps during awards season my next attempt will come from “Big Night.” If the timbale is to be made, guests must be present and the proper vessel purchased. Here’s to next time, Dee
