Please Excuse My Absence

Dear Reader:

The dog ate my homework
My mean sister burned my homework
I dropped it in the rain and it is unreadable

How about I’ve been dog-sick for an entire week, have no energy or voice and don’t want to get anyone else sick. I’ll spare you any other details, like I’ve slept a total of eight hours in the last three days. My head hurts, as do my eyes, nose (big time) and throat.

So we were wrapping gifts today, for our dog sitter and housekeeper and my father. We don’t do Christmas gifts for each other or really for anyone so this is different. No, I can’t tell you what we got for anyone! They’re thank-you gifts and not holiday ones.

We had a great dinner tonight. Chicken wings with the soy/mirin/kejap manis/sriracha marinade then boiled-down sauce with extra minced garlic and ginger. It was spicy and wonderful. Simple romaine salad and sweet potato fries.

I couldn’t find last year’s christmas ornaments, though I checked everywhere. There were two “wild west” ornaments, one with a polar bear on a sled and another of a trout. The others included a recycled glass star, and a mini-mitten, hand-knit, for the dog. Last weekend Margie (m-i-l) opened up her stash and I got a few Texas-style ornaments. I even put brother-in-law John’s photo in one, while he was out here fly-fishing. One was bought by her mother, and another bought or made by her grandmother. But the dearest to me is a simple tin poinsettia flower she made by hand while she was pregnant with my husband. We hung a Noble fir wreath on the front door today and I decorated it and when I do find those other ornaments I’ll add them. All the rest are in storage, of course. As is most of my kitchen, office, living room and bedroom. C’est la vie.

So, we have a new Michael Buble holiday collection I need to hear, plus some others. This will help with the holiday spirit. What are your plans this year? Any new recipes we can try out??? Cheers, Dee
