Vacation Planning

I’ve been trying to plan a simple, easy drive vacation for Jim to take three days off work before taking on a new assignment full-tilt. It’s not easy. Hoping that we’ll get the dog taken care of here, there are arrangements to be made.

The theme is up to me right now and implementation will probably be mine as well because Jim has some crazy work things and hours coming up. While we normally do hotels through internet sites, going to a national park is different. The site is obtuse and doesn’t map hotels and requires one to fill out a form or call. But what place to call? This is a huge national park.

It’s like finding out info from Amtrak. Our government chooses its “concessionaires” by choosing the lowest bidder. It’s supposed to be the lowest responsible bidder but they sometimes lose sight of what they owe to the people, yes, the people who pay taxes to support these national treasures and would like to see what our money pays for from time to time.

It appears that the 1999-built lodge at Yellowstone may not even comply with Federal ADA law. All they say is that there are very few rooms that are accessible to disabled persons. An 1899 lodge, perhaps, but 1999???

Also, when a midweek booking at a Super 8 motel costs nearly $200 it’s enough to put me off a vacation altogether. We live in a lovely place but need a break from routine and dog and work.

We could make it to Lake Tahoe in a day. That’s a new search. Let me try. Cheers, Dee
