Favorites: Dessert

I have to do dessert now because dinner is just too difficult. I’m not really a dessert person.

The favorite is Mom’s Viennese Chocolate Pecan Torte that we all had for birthdays. It is an elegant, sensuous dessert that I’ve never made and will never get the recipe now that she’s gone.

Also, her cheesecake that was made with cottage cheese, not cream cheese, lots of lemon zest and juice and a crust made of Zweiback crackers. And her Apple Brown Betty. And mincemeat tarts and Scandinavian cookies.

Let’s put it to rest. My mother’s desserts were fantastic, and it’s great that my sisters have gone on to bake up a storm. I’ve not because everyone in my family is so talented in that regard that I staked out my place as a savory cook. Cheers, Dee
