Losing My Desk

When we arrived here over a year ago, we thought we were in it for a short haul, not long haul. Not only are we paying to store all our belongings halfway across the country, I need a place to use my computer and do work that keeps our family going.

We fell in love with this house, even as it has some things we can do without (hot tub, day bed), and somethings we need (two-car garage for winter weather). I had three choices for the computer, our bedroom (not a good idea because often I’m up in the middle of the night), a windowless “loft” upstairs where we’d have to pay to store the daybed that is there, or our dining room table.

When I saw the wildlife out on the Preserve, which is our back yard, I fell in love with the dining table because it gives me a full view of everything plus light. Today I have to pack up all my papers and office stuff and tonight we’ll move the computer to the kitchen counter. My reward is four placemats for our new dining room and tomorrow morning I’ll buy flowers for the table and be ready to greet guests for dinner.

It’s very difficult emotionally to lose my space, but I’ll deal with it as it’s only temporary. I’m on my way, the house is clean and I still need to bathe the dog but have brushed out at least 1/4 dog out of her just to get her ready to lose more coat during and mostly after the bath.

It’s time. Wish me luck. Cheers, Dee

  1. How long is the visit? I have to tidy up my workspace (the dining room buffet) before company comes. I was going to sort the pile of paper, but now I think I’ll just drop it in a box and hide it in a closet! Don’t ask how many times I’ve done this before…

  2. Tell me about it. I boxed everything up without looking at it. Jim moved my computer et al to the kitchen counter where I sit now, looking at the pantry and frig. It’s a far cry from cranes and elk.

I put up little Command mini-hooks underneath for all my cables but am still not connected to the printer.

We picked up a file organizer for new mail and four placemats that go beautifully with the brick-colored wall and are Indonesian-inspired. I set the table just to see how it looks! A few daisies or sunflowers will complete the picture.

We’re going to the copper mine (NOT my idea) if it’s not pouring down rain tomorrow, and J may even get a Cub Scout patch for his visit! I downloaded and printed all the info he needs.

Tomorrow I wash the dog, put up delivered food and pick up remaining ingredients for a few dinners then head to the airport. Wish me luck! Cheers, Dee
