While it snowed here several times today, with no accumulation, I had to drive to the valley today to buy dog food. No, she’s not spoiled, at all! The trees were in bloom, and there’s green and flowers everywhere! It’s amazing what a few miles can do.
Jim’s been unable to get off work before the specialty store that has Zoe’s raw meat diet closes at night, so we planned lunch before I picked up dog food and traveled home.
We ate at a lovely Italian restaurant close to his office. White tablecloths and a lovely garden setting. Unfortunately they had a wedding reception there tonight, scheduled for outdoors and it was perhaps a high of 40 degrees there so they had to move it inside and cancel their regular patrons.
Jim had spaghetti and meatballs. I wanted to try something different my first time here, so had their soup of the day, a lovely tomato-basil bisque, also spring greens with goat cheese, stewed cranberries, and sugared walnuts. It’s always a treat to go to lunch on a weekday, and we only do so about six times a year.
I have to start working on a “cold dinner” for tonight. Wrong day for it, with snow, I know. Hard-cooked eggs; chicken salad with celery, pecans and tarragon; fresh radishes; French bread; extra sharp Cheddar; and perhaps a couple of heirloom tomatoes, sliced with a bit of olive oil and basil. Think about it this way, I’m wishing for spring so will cook dishes that bring it on. Cheers, Dee
