Farewell, Mary Travers

I’m going to ask my guitar teacher tomorrow to play “If I Had a Hammer” tomorrow in tribute. I’ve never played it but can hear and see the chords in my mind. Farewell blonde goddess of folk. You will be missed. In memoriam to a great songstress, Dee

  1. The Los Angeles Times began and ended its obituary with a 1993 article that ended with a quote from Mary Travers: “The nice thing about folk music is that if you don’t get it today, it’ll wait for you. The music has power; that’s why it survives. It just has to be passed on.” Amen.

  2. If you can see the chords and hear them in your head, you are doing well indeed! I need more guidance than that.

    RIP Mary.

  3. We played an awful rendition, in the last five minutes of my session, of Leaving On a Jet Plane, written by John Denver and popularized by Peter, Paul and Mary. My thoughts are with her family, both familial and musical. God rest you, Mary.

  4. We almost played “If I Had a Hammer” at our jam yesterday, but we looked at the chords (I still hate F) and how fast they changed, and decided on “Leaving on a Jet Plane” instead. We’re in synchronicity, it seems…

    Still working on regaining calluses!
