Tempest in a Teapot

A new park recently opened up in our neighborhood and while it provides exercise and entertainment for kids (of all ages) the city didn’t quite think things through, like parking and trash cans. A small number of park users are trespassing onto private property causing a danger to themselves and others.

We like that they’re having fun and support their legal activities, however have these concerns which were voiced in the local paper. Instead of being viewed as constructive criticism of things that could make our neighborhood better (legal parking and throwing trash in a bin) one would think we kidnapped their grandmother or ran over their dog!

The level of vitriol is amazing, and very silly. We called for a meeting of fellow park users weeks ago and they did not respond. We’re trying to find them parking but instead are called all kinds of names.

There are a few bad apples in any enterprise – that’s why we need police in general society. We’d like to get along with all park users and have done so until recently. If a few problems were addressed everything would be fine and dandy.

Change is not an easy thing for certain people to accommodate, especially when it comes to public recreation. Fellow park users support this use and want to tweak a few things to make it better for all. Verbal attacks are unnecessary and do not help our shared park or a positive relationship that I’ve had to date.
