Another Day

Another summer day in the city, another gulley-washer. Every day for the past three days. Zoe’s taken to barking at the thunder (like that will do any good).

She’s better than our neighbor, a sweet Jack Russell Terrier who is terrified of thunderstorms, understandably as he is a Hurricane Katrina rescue. Zoe has no such excuse. When I’m home and it storms I take the key and head next door and the pitter patter of little paws runs out his door and into mine. Here he sits on my lap at the computer and insists he be constantly petted, moving my hand from the keyboard with his nose. Other than storms, he’s the quietest and calmest Jack Russell I’ve ever met.

It took writing this for me to “get it.” Zoe knows Shiner comes over here and gets attention, and she wants it too! He’s named Shiner because of a black patch of fur over one eye, and for the legendary Texas beer! Zoe’s named for her sunny disposition and is Greek for “life.”

The sun’s out now and it’s still hot. Meat loaf and garlic mashed Yukon Gold’s for dinner, with a lettuce wedge (so retro), and if I’m inspired, broccoli cheese soup. The soup sounds kind of wintry but we’ve got the A/C cranked so it might be OK. I would make cold cucumber-yogurt soup but Jim isn’t a fan.

Hope you’re having a great day. I’ve been doing research for Jim all day, in between making meals and taking Zoe out. Cheers! Dee
